Applied Research Consultants
Applied Research Consultants (ARC) is an organization composed of graduate students and faculty members housed within the School of Psychological and Behavioral Sciences at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
ARC uses quantitative and qualitative methods to provide consulting services to organizations while simultaneously training graduate students in the Applied Psychology Program. ARC is currently directed by Dustin Nadler, Ph.D.
History of Applied Research Consultants
ARC was founded in 1982 by Dr. Jack McKillip, a professor at the time, in the Department of Psychology at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He saw a student need for applied research training and field experience in program evaluation, assessment, and consulting. Thus, a vertical practicum course was created. Over the years, ARC has been using quantitative and qualitative methods to provide consulting services to organizations while training doctoral students in the Applied Psychology program.
At any given time, there are approximately 10-12 doctoral students in ARC. The students participate for two full years (or six academic semesters). This enhances their graduate school experience, allowing them to follow projects extending across multiple semesters, mimicking "real world" consulting jobs.
