Ryan C. Nationin his second year in the Applied Ph.D program, has a B.S. in English and Psychology from Saint Bonaventure University in New York, and an M.S. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi. Before coming to Carbondale, Ryan worked as a therapist in Mississippi helping those with sexual compulsions, and then in Montana working with those with severe and disabling mental illnesses. He is currently working towards a Ph.D. in Applied Psychology at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where he is both a member of and an RA for Dr. Tamara Kang’s BRC lab. Ryan’s research interests are mainly concerned with making science more accessible to lay people, increasing the cooperation between science and practice in health care, and understanding opinion development. Professionally, Ryan hopes to use his degree and experience in Counseling in conjunction with his degree in Applied to work in healthcare administration, as a facilitator between management and those working in the field.
